Ram Setu, the wider picture

The government’s position on the existence of Ram and the characters of the Ramayana exposed the hollowness of this impotent government, while the opposition BJP might claim a victory it stands exposed too of not putting this project to a stop when they were in power.

The silver lining to this episode is it throws up the way congress is analyzing its position in an election year.

The congress has seen the writing on the wall, the popular middle class Hindu vote has completely deserted the congress, it was very clearly evident in the UP elections where its vote share has been on a continuous decline since they lost power.

Coming back to the Ram setu issue, it was not a mistake as it was made out to be, the congress very well knew of the political fall out of this issue, but the fact was it did not care because the protest against the same would come from the A, B and C cities and towns that have deserted the congress over the last 2 decades. For the congress the equation was simple, there will be protests from these segments but they don’t any way vote congress at all so it does not matter, the win comes from the fact that by insulting the Hindu voter they get closer to their core constituency the muslim voter , now by making a U turn they have lost the muslim voter too.

Some very crucial questions were thrown up during this gaffe, if there is no proof of Ram’s existence then why are there so many people in India called Ram, why is Rahul Gandhi called “Rahul” in the first place should not the government rush in to change his name to something that “exists”?

If Ram did not exist then Rajiv Gandhi should have had the guts to tell the Hindus that since congress does not believe that Ram existed, there will be no shilanyas instead of opening the locks to allow shilanyas, going a bit further if Ram did not exist then so did not Krishna and our dear impotent PM Manmohan Singh should instantly change his name since “Manmohan” is one of the names of Lord Krishna, for a change Mr. Impotent Singh set an example by not doing something that you don’t believe in if you and your government don’t believe in Ram then you should set the example by changing your name.

In fact Mr I. Singh could go further and tell his fellow Sikhs of the fact that since congress no more believes that either Ram or Krishna existed they should re-write their glorious history by renaming all their icons like say rename Shri Guru Govind singh to something else singh since “Govind” being the name of the lord does not exist anymore.

To add a bit of Tragedy to this comedy our beloved editor of the congress party newspaper IE was immediately on hand to jump to the defense of his beloved party by getting critical of Mr. Advani by his bogey on Secularism, I agree that dogs have to jump to their masters rescue even if the master himself is the aggressor, but this went a bit too far.

IE and its editorial staff must re-educate themselves on secularism or may be they have reached a the stage of old dogs cant be taught new tricks, I will let the reader be the judge of this.
Secularism is never linked to belief, being secular does not mean that one gets rid of beliefs and IE conveniently forgets this fact when it comes to Hindus and I can understand that they don’t have the balls to say the same when it comes to other religions.

Congress as a political party can afford this gaffe because they need to get the votes from the other communities as Hindus have deserted them in droves, A loyal newspaper can jump to their rescue but to justify the same on Secular grounds is ridiculous and makes a mockery of secularism itself.

Whether Ram existed or not or whether the congress and its cohorts accept it or not or whether ASI finds proof of it or not is not at all important what’s important is Ram and Ramayana are part of our cultural heritage and we are what we are because of those cultural icons for the millenia an Impotent Singh and wagging dog like IE cannot be allowed to insult that. IE should understand that India is secular and democratic only because the majority are Hindus and Lord Ram is their leader.
