Ram Setu, the wider picture

The government’s position on the existence of Ram and the characters of the Ramayana exposed the hollowness of this impotent government, while the opposition BJP might claim a victory it stands exposed too of not putting this project to a stop when they were in power.

The silver lining to this episode is it throws up the way congress is analyzing its position in an election year.

The congress has seen the writing on the wall, the popular middle class Hindu vote has completely deserted the congress, it was very clearly evident in the UP elections where its vote share has been on a continuous decline since they lost power.

Coming back to the Ram setu issue, it was not a mistake as it was made out to be, the congress very well knew of the political fall out of this issue, but the fact was it did not care because the protest against the same would come from the A, B and C cities and towns that have deserted the congress over the last 2 decades. For the congress the equation was simple, there will be protests from these segments but they don’t any way vote congress at all so it does not matter, the win comes from the fact that by insulting the Hindu voter they get closer to their core constituency the muslim voter , now by making a U turn they have lost the muslim voter too.

Some very crucial questions were thrown up during this gaffe, if there is no proof of Ram’s existence then why are there so many people in India called Ram, why is Rahul Gandhi called “Rahul” in the first place should not the government rush in to change his name to something that “exists”?

If Ram did not exist then Rajiv Gandhi should have had the guts to tell the Hindus that since congress does not believe that Ram existed, there will be no shilanyas instead of opening the locks to allow shilanyas, going a bit further if Ram did not exist then so did not Krishna and our dear impotent PM Manmohan Singh should instantly change his name since “Manmohan” is one of the names of Lord Krishna, for a change Mr. Impotent Singh set an example by not doing something that you don’t believe in if you and your government don’t believe in Ram then you should set the example by changing your name.

In fact Mr I. Singh could go further and tell his fellow Sikhs of the fact that since congress no more believes that either Ram or Krishna existed they should re-write their glorious history by renaming all their icons like say rename Shri Guru Govind singh to something else singh since “Govind” being the name of the lord does not exist anymore.

To add a bit of Tragedy to this comedy our beloved editor of the congress party newspaper IE was immediately on hand to jump to the defense of his beloved party by getting critical of Mr. Advani by his bogey on Secularism, I agree that dogs have to jump to their masters rescue even if the master himself is the aggressor, but this went a bit too far.

IE and its editorial staff must re-educate themselves on secularism or may be they have reached a the stage of old dogs cant be taught new tricks, I will let the reader be the judge of this.
Secularism is never linked to belief, being secular does not mean that one gets rid of beliefs and IE conveniently forgets this fact when it comes to Hindus and I can understand that they don’t have the balls to say the same when it comes to other religions.

Congress as a political party can afford this gaffe because they need to get the votes from the other communities as Hindus have deserted them in droves, A loyal newspaper can jump to their rescue but to justify the same on Secular grounds is ridiculous and makes a mockery of secularism itself.

Whether Ram existed or not or whether the congress and its cohorts accept it or not or whether ASI finds proof of it or not is not at all important what’s important is Ram and Ramayana are part of our cultural heritage and we are what we are because of those cultural icons for the millenia an Impotent Singh and wagging dog like IE cannot be allowed to insult that. IE should understand that India is secular and democratic only because the majority are Hindus and Lord Ram is their leader.

Mügeln and after, did we learn something.?

The India(ns) Bashing affair in Mügeln came and went, most media reported in their own funny ways. In mainstream German media, it was a non-affair, in european media it was non existent and of course the world media remained ignorant, quite acceptable to say when 8 Indians are beaten up by crowd in a remote east german town.
The Left wing magazine Der Spiegel was perhaps the only one who did try to make something out of this issue, but unfortunatley or fortunately nobody takes left wing rant so seriously.
The affair threw up a lot of questions, but as a practice hard questions are never asked because of the fear of getting answers which are harder to tackle as a a result in about 2 days the entire thing got buried deep and simply disappeard as does a lot of issues when they get too uncomfortable.
The first question the media did NOT ask was,
why is that police took One full hour to arrive at the scene after a detailed report was received?
There existed an Intelligence report that this fest was under threat from the so-called right wing extremists, but the Police were not present.
If I were naive, I would not read much into this beacuse we are used to Police inaction, thats what most people did anyway beacuse if you probed below the skin about Police action you will actually dirty your fingers with all thats wrong about most part of East Germany.
Most media blamed the NPD as the bunch responsible, but NPD has 10% of popular vote in East Germany they are not the usual bunch of isolated trouble makers as they are made to be.Does this not explain why the Police were not an Hand to enforce order? but this is too fearful an explanation so we will not do it.
Media reported that 50 people chased 8 Indians and when these Indians hid in a Restraunt run by another Indian, they destoryed the Restraunt, beat up the people who took up refuge and then interestingly completely destroyed the car belonging to the owner parked nearby.
Does this sound like an attack that took place instantaneously, not at all because somebody knew very well that in the bunch of parked cars, which one belonged to the Indian restraunt owner.
To me its not important that 50 people chaesd 8 people or it was pre planned or not, what is important is that the fest had 300 other people mostly locals who were completely aware of what went on and they choose to give a tacit approval to the acts by simply not coming forward to help of an already reluctant police force.
History has a very bad habit of repeating itself.
But Looking at this whole issue from another completely different view we can ask the question what does a party like the NPD gain by beating up a few poor Indians in a remote town?
Agreed the NPD is against forigners, but Indians dont really matter in terms of numbers and two hardly 50000 Indians have chosen to Permanently settledown in Germany and most who did are in the Western Parts of Germany, the rest come and go so long as the EU economic powerhouse has fuel to run, the ones that do live part time are professionals who earn much more than the national average and contribute to the German Economy that distributes this money among east germans, The word distribute is used intentionally since in most parts of East Germany unemployment is 60% plus. The NPD is a political party with 8% vote and it is not that they are unaware of this.
The real foreigners who matter are the Muslim Minority, but any action by the NPD against them will trigger a response too horrible to comprehend and hence The Guiding leadership of NPD ensures that some hapless foriegners like the Indians get the wrong end of the stick.
It is said that the Federal government spends a few million euros to educate people against Right wing/Left wing extremism,my advice is double it or triple or throw it into the north sea and bet that it will not create a ripple.

Mumbai Blasts and 1 year later

Today is the anniversary of the Mumbai Train blasts (Its not an anniversary that we would celebrate) but mourn the dead who died not once but many times over, they die everyday because of the fact that their own people did not deliver justice to them by hanging those shameless impotent islamists whose only act of bravery is to take lives of innocent people.

Our dear loyal prime minister who keeps every date with the Nehru-Gandhi royal family by visiting their graves and mouthing some nonsense, who feels anguish because the police questioned the parents of a terrorist does not have a single official line about those who lost their lives in the blasts last year.

It is well understood why he does not feel any anguish about those dead nor any anguish about those who survived with permanent disabilities nor about the families who are left to fend for themselves after the devastation.

As a Prime Minister he does not believe that he should bring the perpetrators, the conspirators and also the sympathizers to justice, why its because he believes that if he acts then his beloved congress would lose the Muslim vote bank, If you stretch your imagination it looks like the PM wont mind taking a gun and shooting a few Hindus more if it fetches his party a few more Muslim votes.

Today as usual IE carried a big article about the failure of the UPA government in making any meaningful investigations or convections in Islamic terror related cases, but as usual it pointed the fingers at the Commies in the government as if they were responsible for all that’s happening, Of course IE being the loyal family Paper and Mr Editor awaiting his coveted RS seat from the congress it was as silly as it gets.

IE should not insult people’s intelligence by printing such meaningless editorials, because As I always ask how many days can the PM hide behind his impotence? One day it will become public.

The fact of the matter is when this PM came to power, he knew about his impotence, and after a few months everybody did and then the worse happened that is he knew that everybody knows about it and that’s when this government stopped working, but his and his party’s good friends like the IE still think that they can hide be pointing fingers at others.

As we remember all the dead and wish the injured speedy recovery and wish the families to put their lives back on track. We await the day when Justice can be provided to all those aggrieved.

I am eager to see the day when we will have a PM with a spine who is potent.

Much ado about the President

Much ado about the President

Too much about Prathibha Patil & Kalam in the media, gets a bit boring to me, I don’t know what’s so great about the President ?

Every body scored their political points, BJP 2 goals (oppose congress and promote Shekawat) but they can’t score a hat trick because PP is Maharashtrian where it has the best chances of getting some seats in LS polls, so they oppose for the sake of opposing.

The communists will not support Kalam simply because being Muslim he did not behave like one!!! (too bad Mr.Kalam) They don’t really care whom they support because they are eyeing the VP post for a communist (possibly)

The Congress opposes Kalam for the same reason (Kalam was Not too Muslim being a Muslim) and sometimes he did not toe their line (though fell in line later) . Secondly Congress needs a stooge who will be loyal to the family and PP perfectly fits the bill.

So while this tamasha is being played out, the mostly expected outcome is we will have a woman president.

The important fact is does it make any significant difference to you and me, i.e. the patriotic citizens of this country as to who will be the president?

For me the answer is always is No, did Kalam being the president make any difference to your life? Nope !!!
what if we had Mr.Kalam had a pet dog and we called him the President instead of Kalam? Would that have made any difference? None at all

Similarly if PP becomes the president will it make any difference to your life? None at all and we can make her pet dog (if she has any) as president it will still be the same, in fact that would be a better idea because then India will move through the phase of women empowerment to animal empowerment while the rest of the world is debating animal rights.

And if you extend the debate we can say the same about the PM Singh, Has he made any difference to the country?
None at all other than expressing great grief because the Police “questioned” the parents of a Terrorist.

Of course he did not feel any grief at all when hundreds die in Mumbai train blasts, Varanasi blasts and various other Islamic heroic acts of course he wont because all those who died were Hindus.

Think of replacing PM Singh with his dog (if he does have one) or just pick one from the street and put him in PMs seat, I bet it wont a whiff of a difference to our lives.

All that matters is loyalty and you know very well to whom, Got it

Of Doctors, Muslims and Lastly Indian

Most media reported the fact mostly correctly, but one place where the media did make the intentional mistake was in the phrase “Indian”, I firmly believe that the reporting should have said “Indian Muslim” but political correctness said they print the first half and not the second.

For example when the July 7th Bombings took place the media said, British Muslims of Pakistani origin (Implying that they were not the “native” white British) If the media had applied the same standards to July 7, they should have called the July 7th Bombers British because they were all born in UK and held British passports.

Why is the tag Muslim missing now.?

I have two conflicting thoughts one positive and one negative both at the same opinion (every as..le has more than one opinion) as they say!!.

Positive:

It does not really matter what you write, When you say terrorism it is synonymous with Muslims so nationality does not really matter 99% of the people in this world who are exposed to some or the other media know that.

Negative:
Its obvious it was not a mistake, but very intentional, The Western media simply cannot offend Muslims by calling Muslims as Muslims but they have no second thoughts about painting a billion peaceful Hindus as Terrorists by labeling all those arrested as “Indians”

The west expects to win the war against Islamic terrorism but is afraid to call them Islamic, what are the odds against winning a war when you cannot call your enemy by his true name?!!

End of Turkish Dream

The odd man out in the ME was Turkey, 2 years ago till last month Turkey never meant the volatile ME it was almost as if it was part of Europe, The European escapists dream holiday and the intelligent investor’s dream destination. The Talk was all about when and how Turkey will join the EU and anybody who spoke and asked the tough question i.e. “Is Turkey in any way qualified t join the EU “ immediately became a notorious right wing neo-con and what not that his/her view would be banished instantly.

2 years down the line how much has changed. Nothing much you could say, its still the dream holiday location and investment location as it was but all of its EU talk has stopped and Turkish people and politicians after 10 years of day dreaming have realized that their EU train has been stopped. In fact realists knew that It will stop someday but European leftists allowed them to dream on and when the sun set on the Euro left, Turkey saw the truth.

Should Turkey be in the EU is something that is debatable, but more fundamental is the existential question of the EU itself, what is the political goal of EU and is it not time that EU defined itself and its physical and Geographical borders? The construct of EU itself is very artificial. At the current time the common factor holding EU is its Caucasian Christian Majority and the prosperity being carrotted to poorer Eastern nations like the Romania and Bulgaria. Take the money off the table and take the free movement of people from East to West off the table, and the result will be that EU borders will be redrawn and will end at the eastern border of Austria.

Coming back to Turkey, if Turkey can claim to become a member of EU then 25 years down the line Iran should so should Iraq both neighbors of Turkey, To define an argument to include Turkey but exclude its warring neighbors is extremely difficult but why did the eternal turkey fans not see this?.

The two big boys of EU Germany and France voted in unison to throw out their meaningless governments a non-working government in DE and a government that stopped working 5 years ago in France and the new leaders in these two states are from the Right wing and they have completely realigned the EU policies in such way that simply shut the door on Turkey. Turkey finds the door shut on its face just when it was dreaming of entering the EU house. While officially there is no statement about it meaningless talk still continue to meander on but everybody knows the truth Turkey’s EU dream is finished.

The Issue is less about Turkey being shut out of EU, the Issue is what about its own future and what about its neighbors and what about the effects on the current EU.

An analysis about this is very interesting, because its going to be lose lose lose.

From 1917 on since the day Ataturk took power and forced Turkey to be Secular and sensible Turkey has had a complex dual identity, the cultural Islamic baggage they carry is a burden they cant easily shake off added to that is that it is surrounded by rabid Islamists namely Iran, Iraq and Kurds. The things that kept this country from falling into the Islamic abyss was a strongly secular army and a surprisingly strong non-oil dependent economy and its historic close links to Western Europe. But again all the three are artificial constructs, common sense says secularism cannot be forced down the throat of a people where majority cannot be secular since Islam and Secularism cannot co-exist. Its like trying to suppress a gene, It cannot be suppressed for long.

Looking at voting patterns it is clear that Turks have started to wean towards more Islamism the secularists have lost ground each election and the army is also losing its grip and the rejection by EU was the best steroid for Turkey to throw away the artificial cloak of Secularism and join the Islamic mainstream. Prime Minister Erdogan sees more chances for himself and his party by taking on the two artificial constructs the army and the secular judiciary. He knows for a fact that their days are numbered and that its just a matter of a few years that Turkey will be a full fledged Islamic republic and may even revert back to its Caliphaite days.

To me personally its not something that is unnatural, it’s nature taking its course and at best the world around can throttle it and delay but the inevitable cannot be denied. Welcome to the new Caliphaite of Turkey.

As Turkey sinks into the Islamic abyss, it will definitely create new winners and losers around it.

Winners

Iran, now bordered by a newly created Islamic empire rather than a pro-western power
Iraq (If it does continue to exist)

Losers

Kurds, an Islamic Turkey will reduce the chances of a Kurdish nation further

Christian Europe:

The Integration of Europe into the Ummah which is at the moment very orderly and gradual will face some turbulence because Turkish minorities make up upto 8% of the population in Germany, France, Austria and Switzerland. Currently the Turkish minority is quite well integrated into these societies and a secular turkey is acting as a deterrent against militant Islamism to which these minorities subscribe, a change in Turkey is a Green signal to these minorities to get violent and that will create a problem for European societies.

As predicted by population experts, it is around 2050 that Europe will have a Muslim majority, but a change in Turkey will hasten the same by 10 to 15 years.

Its Lose Lose Lose all round.

Significance of Singur.

Singur is hot, in more than one way, you will perceive the heat whatever be the perspective, true Singur may come to a very timid end with the Tatas in their usual style create another Jamshedpur or it could be the beginning of an explosion, It is not for me to speculate on the outcome, my interest lies in asking the question why Singur? Why now and does it showcase any lessons? Did we learn them?

For me Singur is not as portrayed by the liberal media an anti-industrial mob fury in the heart of WB, It has in fact more hidden actors, directors and scriptwriters than the actual actors namely mamta Banerjee and the Jamaats. Unfortunately I cant agree with Mr Tata regards a conspiracy against him by other Industry magnates, though I would agree to most other things that he would say. I see his point that under the current circumstances when he does not know who his enemies are or his friends are he does what everybody does when under the circumstances create mythical demons and search for them and try hiding behind them until the smokescreen clears to reveal the real ones.

The Singur chapter might close, but the lessons are learnt and hard ones and the real heat is not on the Tatas, but on our friendly nationalist traitors the Indian socialist turned communist turned socialist.

The Indian communist is an endangered species, but that’s not the problem, the problem is he knows it and then the others know it and he knows that the others know it. But that’s half the problem the other half is all parties pretend as if they know nothing, and believe me that’s what scares the communist to his core. You can actually imagine the predicament by putting yourself in their shoes its quite that simple.

In your office send out a spam mail to all your collegues, in the beginning you believe that they don’t know who it was, you have an air of invincibility, later you get to know that an investigation was on and they did suspect you, shakes you a bit but your invincibility factor rises as you believe that they don’t have proof, a bit later someone drops a hint that in fact they really know it was you and now you are in this continous state of I know I did it, they know I did it, I know that they know and they know that I know that they know, this is infact a very unstable state you are always under pressure because of an expectation of getting fired, but surprisingly it didn’t happen, and then the management in fact starts acting as if they know nothing at all and this is the scariest part of all because all your logical paths of action are shut but two factors continue to play your mind, the fear of the unknown (Fear of the known can be quantified and handled) and the uncertainty factor that you don’t know how to mitigate.

The communist is currently in the last category so is the Congress party and so is the BJP ( a bit on that later) . Coming back to Singur, things look more interesting because look at the case of it.

The Tatas want to build a Car making unit, for their 1 lakh rupee car, a pretty noble idea indeed they choose WB after East Bengal (oops sorry Bangladesh booted them out), they choose Singur in WB . Why they choose a potentially backward state which has no hope of progress among 25 states in India is a question that only Tatas and the WB government can answer, whats there in Singur that’s not available in TN (The heartland of the auto industry) or any other progressive states?

Our hidden scriptwriters and directors who are orchestrated this movement have been asking this question, BUT not in the way that you think, they are NOT asking for a probe because there was an evidence of corruption, they are not asking for a probe because there was evidence of kickbacks, they are not asking for a probe because the intended rehabilitation did not reach the recipients, with Tatas and their track records nobody ever asks such questions.

That is the reason why the issue is not about the Tatas at all, its an issue that has more to do with the Communists themselves and that is why this issue is very important to be analysed by every concerned citizen of this country.

Look at the Communists who have ruled Bengal from the days of its glory to its currently ruinous state today, they share power at the center too, the surprise element to this whole sordid drama is evident because sitting in power in Delhi and Kolkata they are not in a position to control this event, which under normal circumstances (by normal I mean completely Stalinist or maoist circumstances) should have been a cake walk for the communist by simply sending away the land owners and other opposing parties to the Gulag and closing the chapter.

Then who is/are these hidden directors who are blowing up this issue to these proportions? A good question but no, I will not point you to them but I can definitely direct your think to eliminate the usual suspects and then ask you to guess.

One,Who would oppose this deal, Tatas are a friend of every political party including the commies.
Two the Congress is in a hopeless position in WB and they don’t want to upset their apple cart in Delhi by making a case against them in Kolkata, they don’t have the will neither do they have the capability.
Three the BJP continues to grope in the dark, they really don’t know where they are going, actually they don’t know where they want to go so by taking on the communists in Kolkata has no gains.
Mamta Banerjee, who? The actual actress in this drama, might have a personal and political card to play but does she have the might? Her Gandhian dramatics played out quite well but today Gandhian dramatics can win in movies only. To me she actually is a pawn in this great game.

So who are the opposers? Taking a cue from Mr.Tata, lets speculate that vested business interests that are opposed to the Tatas are behind this, but who would be hurt if the Tatas were to build a Rs 1 lakh car? The marutis? The Mahindras? The other Korean automakers? In fact none there are cars at 3 lacs so are cars at 13 and both sell to their respective segments and Merc will always be a Merc and people will still buy it even if tatas do make their 1 lakh rupee car!!.
The next usual suspect is the two wheeler makers who believe that their market will be eroded by a 1 lakh car, they tend to lose, but they know a fact that once prosperity reaches the public they will tend to move up the value chain and this is a very basic lesson in economics.
The other biggest loser could be the chief of India Inc Mr Bajaj, because if the car becomes successful, then it becomes a taxi, that could put the “auto rickshaw” the bread and butter of the Bajaj group out of our roads for good. A plausible theory but falls flat when we ask do the Bajajs have the ability to sustain a fight? Simply NO.
The last suspect is the people of Singur, who would lose their lands and along with it their livelihoods, but Jamshedpur shows how a loss in land is made up in development and Singurians will definitely know, the Commies will never take them where the Tatas will take them towards development and better lives

So who are these actors? are we anywhere near them? Or are we still groping in the dark
Not anymore, actually the biggest loser if this deal comes through is the hardcore communist, surprised? Because economic prosperity is the biggest threat to the communist, Islamist and the socialist and in that order.

Now you ask why the communist is trying to commit suicide? Thats the biggest riddle so far, but not anymore, The communist party is made up of two parts, the hardcore communist and the middleclass communist, the hard core communist survives on poverty and more poverty while the middle class communists expects personally to be rich and others to be poor, both of them have emerged as losers as prosperity has caught up thick and fast in the west and south and to an extent in the north, their significance has significantly eroded over years and their once extolled superiority has been a joke simply put the Bengali and WB is is dropping off Indias landscape (Bangladesh has long ago fallen off the world map).

The middleclass Bengali is shaken badly and tries to put the house back in order by these projects, but the hardcore communist sees this as a threat and this is the proxy war and these are the real actors.

Simply put the middleclass communist wants to move to the right ( I mean a bit left of center) that is gravitate towards a kind of awkward socialism and the hard code communists wants to move further left (Of what kind I leave it to your imagination) both of them are good moves because the congress too moves sometimes to the left of center and the right of center as it suits it.

Either way the fight is good because we have to change the status quo in WB so that we start moving I hope the middle class communist will prevail over the hard core jihadi communist for the good of all of us.

Its not important as to who wins or loses, because when outsiders could not move the commies the change came from within, purges like these are good because it hastens the death of the communist monster and mercy death to communism is preferable to both the patients(communists) and their relatives ( we the non communists).

Long live Singur.

Good bye Saddam

Hello everybody its good to be back after the year end break, It looks like too many quite important things have happened around the globe in this so called „“year end break, funny that they call the year end break isn’t it.

Most important it all comes back to Iraq, our good old friendly neighborhood Saddam as expected has been executed and that had no ifs but only when and I think the Americans delivered a master blow by their timing.

Americans showed the true power of death, an out of power saddam executed brings makes more gains on the ground than strutting around in courts shouting obscenities in the name of religion.

One interesting fact that most missed is if ever America had a “true” friend in the Arab world it was Saddam, He was a friend when he was a Sunni Rabble rouser, a good friend during tumultuous times when he was in power and a better one when he did not dance as per their wishes, even better when he lost power during the invasion, friendship value rose when he was captured in his small rat hole, friendship was near peak when he was strutting around the kangaroo courts before international cameras and peaked when he was executed and it reached its zenith when post execution videos were aired.

I personally don’t think any other nation in the world is as lucky as America to have such good friends who in their life provide them with such huge benefits and in their deaths add a multiplier effect on Benefits.

If you are surprised by the above paragraphs read on as to why I think that Saddam was and is Americas best friend.

A brief history of the ME does no harm. The Iranians or the Persians as they like to call themselves have only themselves to blame, once the best Friends of America during the Shah times they had the best of both worlds, sitting on a pile of Natural gas and being friendly ensured that wealth and modernity were their constant partners, American and European education was then affordable and doors were always open to all of them, If any of you Indians reading this could recall at those times there were more than a quarter million Iranian students studying in Indian universities mostly technical streams and Medical and life sciences streams (Of course not the deobandi syllabus). Also one of Karnataka’s busiest roads as also the road built on the toughest terrain that connects Bangalore and Mangalore was built with their money and expertise.
When you see the current Iran I don’t think anybody would even believe what I wrote, but its sadly true, The Persian shias had a chance to get out of the Islamic Ghetto, alas they did not. No don’t blame the Sunnis or the decadent west for that.

It is in this background that Saddam has to be seen, his emergence and rise to power and his fall all are intricately connected to this vast Persian legacy.

When Iranian stupidity drove America out of Iran, it was not the end of the world for them, there was always a back door and Saddam was there to open it for them. The fluid situation at that time forced America to look for a partner and found Saddam, smarting from the loss inflicted by the Shias what better than befriend a rabid Sunni ruling over a Shia majority land neighboring the Iranians, It was definitely a friendship worth maintaining and Americans are never known to be dumb.

At this point you should be aware of one important thing, that is the bond between Saddam and the yanks may have been at that time very opportunistic devoid of any commonality between ideas and ideals, but for us the non-Muslims it made the world a much safer place, to appreciate this point you will again have to drop your self back into those tumultuous times, the cold war was beginning to really get cold, battle lines hardening across the world, the saying was you are either with them or us, of course Indian Tom foolery with the NAM joke continued but in fact it had no other use than being a talking shop not even worth its nuisance value (In fact Saddam was a very important member of NAM along with Castro,Gaddafi,Saudi Princes,Ershad,Zia,Ortega and Nehru) quite an August company.

Getting back to the times then, you had the Persians and the artificial construct called Iraq Sitting on massive loads of oil and gas along with a population who were mostly unemployable other than as suicide bombers and extremely fanatic and fatalistic, add massive doses of dollars to this bunch then the world would have to contend with three Saudi Arabias, Islamic violence around the world and especially in India is the effect of one Saudi Arabia, imagine the effect it would have had if we had three such rogue states.
In fact we Hindus have to be thankful to Saddam, what ever he was he kept the Shias occupied and weak so that their hands were a bit tied considering that there are over 100 million Shias in India.

Saddam was there when we all needed him, he rode to power on a completely non religious formula and stuck it out there by hook or crook in fact you can accuse him of anything but I will always take a sympathetic view because all he did had a very indirect effect on us.

The real blessing in disguise for all of us both the east and west was his brilliant opening up of the 8 year war with Iran, in fact the best part of this war was that almost all the petro-dollars earned were burnt out by shooting at each other rather than at others, strategically speaking two mad dogs are better off fighting between themselves rather than spreading the disease all around, get the point?? 

On one hand he held the Shia power at bay and on the other he acted as the counter weight to other rabid Sunnis in the region, in fact there are a number of cases where the Americans used saddam to achieve their aims over the Saudis and other smaller fancy Islamic states like Kuwait and Jordan, Is it then a surprise if you know why the Jordanians are such friends of the USA and the Kuwaitis love the Americans and the Saudis will do Americas bidding even if it goes against their religion, in fact one powerful saddam had all the silly princes of the gulf rushing to embrace America. Do you personally think that it is bad for the world?.

Thanks to America, they ensured that for all the petro dollars these states earned, they promptly spent it on arms by keeping small local wars raging, in fact it was a good idea to keep the otherwise unemployable populations employed and indirectly helping countries like India, which otherwise usually cant provide enough security to its majority community.

You can demonize Saddam by saying that he tried to build nukes at Bush era, but every dictator has a fancy so did Saddam, and he did not even put up any resistance when the Israelis bombed it, he knew it was futile because the bombs had America written all over it.

Bush –I bombed the daylights out of Saddam for invading Kuwait and putting the delicate oil market to risk, but he had no intention of ending Saddams era, he did not care for Kuwait or its good for nothing princes either, all he cared was that the oil from Kuwait and Iraq should flow, but Saddams real tactical error was when he tried selling oil by denominating it in non US currency, and that was the end of his positive friendship and what Bush II did is very recent memory, you might be a friend of America, make small mistakes its all part of friendship you know, but you never challenge their superiority and that fatal mistake Saddam did and paid the price.

If you believe that the invasion was the last straw in the mutually beneficial relationship between the Yanks and Saddam then you are again wrong, in fact the mutually benefit in the relationship was replaced by a you lose I win factor in favor of America, when America was hailed for bringing down a brutal dictator.

Their first ace was when they captured Saddam alive in his rat hole, the humiliation was there to see, Americans got what they wanted, to showcase to the world of “their bastards” i.e. all dictators supported by America what misbehavior will do to them, the message had its effects, Gaddafi was the first and not the last to become one of their “bastards”,
All the silly princes of the gulf states were put on notice, cooperate and behave or else..

On a public front a living saddam was a good PR exercise than a dead saddam, showcase him on TV throw him in front of a kangaroo court and this makes great positive viewing about Iraq amidst all bad news emanating from there, but the one year court drama is a drag, its no big brother so people tend to forget and peoples collective short memory had its effect as did increasing American losses and growing signs of Iranian muscle flexing and brash non-cooperation, you need a Saddam again but this time for execution via a court decree and why not.

In one case it’s perfectly legal to execute him under Iraqi law and secondly you get the execution done by Iraqis themselves, and the timing could not be perfect, with increasing Sunni violence a strong message had to be sent out to them and what better than to execute the Iraqi Sunni flag bearer on the official “Sunni forgiveness day”.

While the Sunnis have the nothing to lose effect, they learnt the hard lesson America will hit back and that has taken a toll on their morale whether you accept it or not. The Shias may have had a good laugh, but they know very well, they can be the next and most worried will be the mullahs next door.

Most of other Islamic dictators who are mostly “our bastards” from Americas view got the message, if you have seen the way our friendly neighborhood mush has changed, then thank Saddam for that.

The real master stroke was the actual videos, it is quite foolish to believe that an amateur prison guard had a hidden camera to picturise the execution and post that his body was allowed to be photographed by a few other guards and the video allowed to hit the internet, it was well planned and well executed and the videos were meant to hit the stands and they hit well and had the desired effect.

A dying Saddam and a dead saddam ensured to complete satisfaction in one stroke the complete illegitimacy of the Shia dominated government deepening the sectarian divide, the actual intended consequence, a deeply divided Iraq is any day a better proposition to this world, Iraq is reaching the end to its meaningless existence, and the earlier it reaches that end the better.

The world needs to give the Kurds, a 3000 year old clan, a chance to form a country which will have a bigger ripple effect than Saddam, because it will disturb the current equation in Turkey, Saudi Arabia and notably in Iran and this will be very interesting to watch.
To their credit they have shown how it is possible to establish stable governance in the midst of chaos, you only have to visit Kirkut to view that.

Coming back to Saddam, Saddam might have died but his spirit will flicker about for a couple of months more and then as usual will be forgotten and buried in the vast lands of Arabia. In the meantime America is on the look out for new true friends.
